Making the threads work

been working on the threads that run through the book and making them strong, so that hopefully each will create its own storyline but each thread will have a very different feel to it.

The main story threads (similar to my own life experience) are.....

Samaritans
Hospital Radio
Counselling
The Adult Entertainment industry
A friendship group
Love interest
A musician idol

Its funny cos they sound dreadfully boring when put like that... but each one comes with its own progress and plot, with the idea of being powerful, moving and touching on emotions that people normally don't talk about.

I have plots and characters fairly well thought out, and what is taking a lot of time, is getting the wording and description how I want it in order to achieve the feelings behind the words. As an amateur, it really is teaching me a lot about the English Language. In particular, tonight, the harshness and softness of descriptive words. If someone take a CD sleeve out of a case, normally they would pull it out. But should they slide it out, or tease it out. Why is this sounding suggestive?

Similarly, a gentle female character. Her hands might caress, slide, cup or dust off. To create relaxed-ness, her body might amble or stroll.

I never really thought about descriptive words in such detail. Its fascinating. In some ways I wish I was a pro writer and knew all the tricks, but in some ways its great not being, and learning everything fresh.
